When will Karnataka get a new CM? Here's all we know about swearing-in ceremony

Nearly a week after the Congress' triumphant return to power, the upcoming Karnataka government remains shrouded in uncertain. Senior party leaders Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar have emerged as contenders for the post of Chief Minister and the party assured that a new Cabinet would be in place within the next 48-72 hours.

According to the Congress a decision on the Karnataka chief minister is likely by Wednesday or Thursday. Siddaramaiah is considered to be something of a front-runner among, Shivakumar has also taken a strong position. He has repeatedly noted that the assembly polls were won under his leadership and that he has worked hard to ensuring this victory.

Meanwhile, preparations were underway at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium for the swearing in ceremony of the yet-to-be-finalised Chief Minister-designate. Officials were seen inspecting the venue at the heart of Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon. Police personnel also conducted inspections at the Stadium today. The venue gains additional significance as the site of a 2013 oath taking ceremony where Siddaramaiah assumed the mantle of Chief Minister for the first time.

The two chief ministerial aspirants - Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar - held separate meetings with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other top leaders on Tuesday and Wednesday. No official announcement has been made thus far and the party continued its hectic consultations to decide on who would lead the government in the southern state.
