Police have confirmed that Khan Mubarak, an associate of underworld don Chhota Rajan, has passed away while receiving medical treatment at the Hardoi district hospital within an hour of being shifted from the district jail, on Monday. The 43-year-old Mubarak had been suffering from pneumonia and was undergoing treatment for several days before his demise at the medical college hospital.
Mubarak, hailing from Ambedkar Nagar district, was a notorious criminal with involvement in multiple major shootouts. He was among the top 10 criminals in Uttar Pradesh and had been implicated in extortion cases worth crores of rupees, as well as shootouts in various states including Maharashtra.
With approximately 40 cases of kidnapping, murder, and other crimes registered against him, Mubarak had previously been incarcerated in Faizabad Jail before being transferred to Hardoi Jail. Over the years, the Uttar Pradesh government had seized his properties worth crores of rupees.
Mubarak's elder brother, Zafar Supari, was also a notorious criminal associated with the underworld. Mubarak gained notoriety after firing at an umpire during a cricket match due to a disputed 'run out' decision. His name also surfaced in connection with a post office robbery in 2006, and he was allegedly involved in the Kala Ghoda massacre in Mumbai that same year.
Mubarak was among the 31 mafiosi and gangsters listed by Uttar Pradesh police in April. Jail superintendent Sanjay Kumar Singh confirmed that Mubarak had been transferred to Hardoi Jail in June 2022 from Maharajganj jail
In the Kala Ghoda massacre, carried out by the Chhota Rajan gang, Mubarak and his accomplices shot and killed two accused individuals who were locked in a police van. He was subsequently arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) in 2007 for his involvement in a cash van robbery. During interrogation, Mubarak disclosed details of the Kala Ghoda massacre. He served a five-year sentence in Naini Jail until his release in 2012.
Following his release, Mubarak continued his criminal activities, including extortion in Ambedkar Nagar and other locations. Although he had been in and out of jail in various cases, he was released in 2016 due to insufficient evidence and witnesses.
In 2017, Mubarak was arrested by the UP STF in connection with an attempted assassination on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Jurgam Mehndi. A year later, in 2018, Mehndi died in an attack for which Mubarak was allegedly held responsible.
