On the occasion of World Environment Day, more than 10,000 saplings were planted by the Jharkhand Energy Department across the state on Monday.
The energy department had planted in offices and grids of the department office sites located across the state. The department is also planning to make its offices and grids green and eco-friendly by planting over 50,000 saplings by the end of this year.
The plantation activity involved the contribution of officials and staff of every office in the state, said Manish Kumar, the director Manish Kumar on Monday.
"We want to make every office eco-friendly and develop an energy park on the premises of each office. To make the offices people-friendly, the shed is being constructed, water filter being installed and the token system being introduced," Kumar said.
The initiative of planting 10,000 saplings on the occasion was also appreciated by the Jharkhand Forest Department. The department also said that such initiatives will also help in adding more to the green mission of the state and reduce the carbon load.
The Additional principal chief conservator of forest, NK Singh, said that the department would plant more than two crore saplings in the upcoming rainy season in the state.
"Separate plans have also been made to increase green cover in urban Jharkhand. Under this initiative, a total of 86,600 saplings will be planted only in Ranchi city," he said.
He also informed me that the department has sought help from various other departments as well to take the state green mission forward. Other than departments he also appealed to organizations, NGOs, schools, colleges, and other institutions to come forward for the state green mission.
The move encourages other departments to come forward and take similar actions for environmental protection, as planting trees is the only remedy to repair the damaged environment, and reduce episodes of extreme seasons due to global warming.
