Wrestlers' Protest: The wrestlers' effort to immerse their hard-0earned medals in Ganges river at Haridwar was thwarted by after farmer leader Naresh Tikait intervened and sought a five-day time from the protesting grapplers. The wrestlers had reached Haridwar at 6pm to ‘throw away’ their medals, however, almost an hour later Tikait reached the spot and asked them not to throw away their medals.
The protesting wrestlers, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi malik, Sangeeta Phogat, and Bajrang Punia along with others had earlier announced that as a mark of protest against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment allegations, and also the Delhi Police's ‘manhandling’ of them during a peaceful protest, they were about to throw their medals in Ganges river.
Olympic medalist wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik along with Vinesh Phogat have accused the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and are demanding his arrest.
-Olympic medalist wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik along with Vinesh Phoga reached Uttarakhand's Haridwar to immerse their all medals including Olympic medals in the river Ganga on Tuesday evening, as a mark of their protest.
-A sizable crowd is present as the wrestlers were seen huddled together to immerse their medals which they have achieved after much hard work.
-Women wrestlers were sitting on the ground and were emotional.
-The protesting wrestlers decided to halt their plan after farmer leader Naresh Tikait intervened and sought a five-day time from the protesting grapplers. Tikait took medals from the wrestlers and sought a five-day time from them.
-Meanwhile, claiming to be the uncle of the "minor" girl who has accused Brij Bhushan of sexual harassment, Amit Pehlwan, has hit out at the protesting wrestlers, saying that they are "misleading" his family and using them to frame Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
-However, Amit claimed that the wrestlers are carrying out a scam as his brother's daughter's (niece) age has been changed to 16 years, so that the grapplers can "wrongly utilise" the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. He said the girl's date of birth is 22-02-2004.
-The TMC has filed a case with the National Human Rights Commission seeking action against the Delhi Police for "manhandling and assaulting" protesting women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar here, party spokesperson Saket Gokhale
-The Delhi High Court Tuesday issued notices to its Registrar General, the city government and the police in order to decide which court shall hear the plea of the minor wrestler, who is among the seven female grapplers who have accused Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment.
-A veteran of the cricketing fraternity of India, Anil Kumble joined other big sportspersons like Neeraj Chopra, Abhinav Bindra, Sunil Chhetri, who have voiced their support for wrestlers and expressed disappointment over how they were treated on the day India celebrated its new Parliament.
