After rounds and rounds of heated social media debates over the availing of reclining seat prerogative for the flyers, Ministry of Civil Aviation has put out a list of do's and don'ts for flyers through a series of tweets. The discussions on the issue started after a video of an American Airlines passenger punching the reclining seat of a woman sitting in front of him went viral on Twitter.
"A little bit of basic good manners and respect are always worth a thumbs up. Your seat is not a sleeper berth. Don't be inconsiderate of other people's space," the Civil Aviation Ministry tweeted on Saturday. The message was posted with an illustration of a reclined seat on a flight.
The ministry urged flyers to be more careful about reclining their seats.
The ministry further urged passengers to have total caution, "With the limited space you have, if you must recline, do it carefully. Always think about the people around you because no one wants your head in their laps."
The ministry also wants flyers to wear a fresh pair of socks so that stink doesn't cause any discomfort to the other passengers.
'A little bit of basic good manners and respect are always worth a thumbs up. While you take your feet to the air, don't air out your feet. If you have to, bring a fresh pair of socks as a courtesy to people around you.'
The Twitter users remained divided over the subject with some arguing that recliner seats are indeed meant to be reclined, while others wanted airlines to increase the legroom.
