Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday again claimed that singer Zubeen Garg was ‘murdered’, and said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating his death will submit its report before the court by December 8.
“Today, I am not saying Zubeen Garg's death is an accident, it is a murder. We will have to submit the chargesheet of Zubeen Garg murder case before December 17. I have given the target to submit the chargesheet by December 8. We are ready,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, the Assam CM also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure that the Home Ministry promptly gives permission to submit a chargesheet since the incident happened in a foreign country.
The approval will be granted within the next three to four days, he said.
“If any incident happens in a foreign country, approval is needed from the Ministry of Home Affairs before submitting the chargesheet. Yesterday, I met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, so that we can get the approval soon. I think that, in the next 3-4 days, the SIT will write to the MHA, we will get approval, and we will submit the chargesheet on December 7, 8 or 9,” Sarma told reporters.
Singapore sends post-mortem report
On November 1, Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Singapore authorities had officially sent the Assam government the final post-mortem and toxicology report of deceased singer Zubeen Garg.
“Today, the Singapore authority has formally sent the final post-mortem report and toxicology report to the Assam government,” he said.
He promised justice to Zubeen Garg, who died under suspicious circumstances earlier this year, with the incident leaving the whole country shocked.
“Our officer told me that the Singapore government has formally sent the final post-mortem report, complete sea-related information and toxicology report through the MLAT. People are seeking justice for Zubeen Garg and we will give it and it is 100% sure. We will bring all facts on Zubeen Garg death case before the court and the people of the state. I am saying this confidently. The SIT report will be with big facts and the people of Assam will be able to know many unknown facts,” Sarma said.
Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore on September 19 after an alleged drowning incident. The singer had been in Singapore for the Northeast India Festival.
