Indian student, 21, killed by stray bullet at bus stop in Canada's Hamilton

A 21-year-old Indian student, Harsimrat Randhawa, was killed by a stray bullet in Hamilton, Ontario, as she waited for a bus.

Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old Indian student, was killed in Ontario, Canada, after being shot by a stray bullet on Wednesday evening during a shooting incident in the city. The bullet struck her when she was waiting at a bus stop in Hamilton. She was a student at Mohawk College.

The Indian Consulate in Toronto shared the information regarding the death of the 21-year-old and expressed regret over the incident. In a post on X, the Consulate wrote, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa in Hamilton, Ontario." The Consulate revealed that Harsimrat was hit by a bullet during a shooting incident involving two vehicles.

“ A homicide investigation is currently underway. We are in close contact with her family and are extending all necessary assistance. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family during this difficult time,” the Consulate added.

 

 

The Hamilton Police received reports of a shooting near Upper James and South Bend Road streets in Hamilton at 7:30 pm, a PTI report said, citing a police statement. Upon reaching the location, the police found that Harsmirat had been shot in the chest. She was rushed to a hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries.

According to the report, the passenger of a black car shot the occupants of a white Sedan. Following the firing, both vehicles immediately left the location. The bullets also hit the rear window of a nearby house, where residents were watching television, a few feet away from the location. Nobody was injured in the home, the report said, citing police.

Investigators are looking for dashcam or security camera footage near the shooting area between 7.15 pm and 7.45 pm to reach out to the authorities and provide any information that can help with the investigation, the report added.
