Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy: A complaint has been registered in Mumbai against YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia aka 'BeerBiceps', influencer Apoorva who goes by the name ‘Rebel Kid’, comedian Samay Raina and show organisers over their recent comments on India's Got Latent show. The Mumbai Police have reached the Khar studio where the show was filmed earlier. Dikshit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 9, Mumbai police, said, “An inquiry is going on.” No FIR has been registered yet.
According to NDTV report, the complaint was filed with Mumbai Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and Maharashtra Women's Commission, demanding strict actions against Ranveer Allahabadia. The report added that two Mumbai lawyers had filed a police complaint against Allahbadia and other comics.
Ranveer Allahbadia posted an apology video on social media X with a caption, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry.” The podcaster said, “My comment was not appropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not his forte. I am just here to say sorry."
The popular YouTuber said he “personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn't cool on my part.” Allahbadia said, “The podcast is watched by people of all ages. I don't want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly and family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect."
While interacting with reporters over YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's remarks on a show, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “I have come to know about it. I have not seen it yet. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others... In our society, we have made some rules, if someone violates them it is absolutely wrong and action should be taken against them.”
The National Creators Award winning Ranveer Allahabadia's controversial remarks triggered outrage after a video went viral from India's Got Latent wherein is heard asking a contestant “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?”
In March 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had presented the Disruptor of the Year award to Ranveer Allahbadia at the National Creators Award ceremony at Bharat Mandapam.
NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo on Monday wrote to Mira Chatt, Head Public Policy, YouTube, directing “to take urgent action to remove the concerned episode/videos from YouTube.”
