Australia spinner Adam Zampa did not register for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, despite having played in the past. Zampa was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad in IPL 2025, but played just two matches after he sustained a recurring shoulder injury.

In the past, Adam Zampa has played for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. Overall, in the IPL, the 34-year-old has taken 31 wickets from 22 matches.

He made his IPL debut with Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2016, and registered 12 wickets from five matches. In terms of wickets, that has been his best IPL season to date.

While he is not currently part of any IPL franchise, Zampa is plying his trade with Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The New South Wales cricketer, in a recent interview, opened up on why he decided to ditch the IPL for the PSL.

Why did Adam Zampa prefer PSL over IPL?

He cited that he withdrew from IPL and preferred PSL because of the lesser financial compensation and the hectic schedule of the former.

"I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, I just don’t get the money that others with other skill sets do. And for the amount of time that the IPL takes, it just didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing it,” Zampa stated on the ARY News podcast.

“I was going to have a break, but PSL was on the radar about a month ago. It all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it,” he added.

Zampa has got his PSL 2026 campaign off to an impressive start, taking three wickets from two matches. He was exceptional in Karachi Kings' latest match against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday, taking 2/11 to restrict Lahore to 128/9.

Karachi Kings won that match by four wickets, albeit in controversial circumstances.
