Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is facing charges for allegedly failing to pay federal income tax. He has also been charged for illegally possessing a weapon and has reached an agreement with the Justice Department. The charges against Hunter Biden have come days after Joe Biden held his first rally for his campaign for the 2024 presidential election.

The agreement with the Justice Department mentions that Hunter Biden will plead guilty for his tax offenses. He is also expected to reach an agreement on the charges of illegally possessing a firearm.

Following the death of his brother Beau Biden in 2015, Hunter Biden, the second son of President Joe Biden, openly admitted to grappling with addiction – the deal now ends an investigation by the Justice Department into this matter.

After the agreement, Christopher Clark, a lawyer for Hunter Biden, said in a statement that it was his understanding that the five-year investigation had now been resolved. He said Hunter Biden is “looking forward” to continuing his recovery.

“I know Hunter [Biden] believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward," Christopher Clark said.

Joe Biden has also faced questions about his son's business dealings and drug addiction.

The gun charge states that Hunter Biden possessed a handgun, a Colt Cobra 38 special, despite knowing he was a drug user for 11 days in October 2018. The count carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, but the Justice Department says Hunter Biden has reached a pretrial agreement on that charge. Full details were not immediately available.

The White House had no immediate comment on the case.
