On Congress MLA’s ‘no power sharing’ remark, Shivakumar’s ‘let anyone say anything’ comeback

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar remained unfazed after minister MB Patil’s statement on the power-sharing formula between Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah created some flutters in the Congress circles. When asked about the Congress MLA’s remarks that “there was no power-sharing formula", DK Shivakumar said, “let anyone say anything."
The deputy chief minister also asserted that the priority of the Congress government in Karnataka is an all-round development of the state. Shivakumar said, “Let anyone say anything. I will not talk about that. AICC is there to look after power and other party issues. There are national leaders of the Congress. Our priority is only for all-round development of the state."
Earlier in the day, MB Patil claimed that there was no existing “power sharing" proposal. Denying any proposed arrangement that Shivakumar will take over as CM after two-and-half years or post-2024 Lok Sabha polls, MB Patil said Siddaramaiah will lead the government for a full five-year term.
MB Patil had said, “Siddaramaiah will be the CM for five years. If there was a power-sharing agreement, senior leaders would have informed. There is no proposal like that. If there was such a proposal, KC Venugopal or AICC general secretary would have informed."
"When asked about power sharing, he [Venugopal] had said there is no power sharing. Power sharing is with the people... I have said what Venugopal had said," he told reporters.
However, his brother and Bangalore Rural MP DK Suresh said he too can respond sharply to what Patil has said, but will not do so.
With both chief ministerial aspirants Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar digging in their heels post Congress' victory in the May 10 Assembly polls, prolonged parleys involving the grand old party's central leadership had preceded their appointment as CM and deputy CM, respectively, last week.
