A 30-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her boyfriend inside a moving autorickshaw after an argument between the two. The man then tried to take his life by gashing his throat with the same weapon.
The incident happened on Monday on Khairani Road in Mumbai's Saki Naka area. Police officials have said that a case of murder is being registered against the man, identified as Deepak Borse. Further probe is underway.
The incident was reported in Dutt Nagar on Khairani Road, the Sakinaka police station official said.
According to the reports, the woman and the accused knew each other and the incident was triggered by some quarrel that erupted between them in the three-wheeler.
The man first slit the throat of the woman, identified as Panchshila Jamdar, in an autorickshaw after an argument. The woman tried to escape by jumping off the rickshaw but fell some metres away.
The accused, Deepak Borse, then tried to hurt himself with the same sharp-edged weapon.
"Deepak Borse slit the throat of Panchshila Jamdar inside a moving autorickshaw. She got out of the vehicle to escape but fell some down some distance away. Borse tried to end his life by gashing his neck with the same sharp-edged weapon," a Sakinaka police station official was quoted as saying by PTI.
The passers-by alerted the police and the two were also taken to a nearby hospital. While the woman was declared brought dead, the accused is recuperating.
A murder case is being filed against Deepak Borse, police official said.
