West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expressed deep concern over turmoil in neighbouring Nepal, and strongly condemned the killing of a former prime minister's wife, who was allegedly burnt alive.

Banerjee said West Bengal has always stood for humanity and compassion and urged people not to allow violence and political opportunism to destroy lives.

Amid the ongoing unrest in Nepal, Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Wednesday underscored India's long-standing ties with the neighbouring country, stressing that the people should have the chance "democratically" to choose their future.

Speaking to ANI, Khurshid appealed to the Nepalese to quickly bring back peace and consider the country as a "valuable home" for themselves.

Khurshid said, "We have a very deep and lasting relationship with the people of Nepal. And some very dramatic changes have come in their polity. We have always stood by the democratic principle that Nepalese should have the chance democratically to choose their own future and their own destination."

Raising concern over the ongoing tumultuous situation in Nepal, the Supreme Court on Wednesday emphasised that it is proud of the Indian Constitution.

"We are proud of our Constitution. If you look at what's happening in our neighbouring States. What happened in Nepal yesterday...", the Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai remarked, suggesting the nation's constitution is so formidable that it has continued to keep the democracy intact.

Nepal Protest News LIVE: Videos shared on the social media platform X, showed how Nepal politicians and officials were escaping via army helicopter as they fear getting captured and beaten by the protestors amid the nationwide violent protests against corruption.

The agitators also set fire to the Hilton Hotel, a five-star property situated in Kathmandu. Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur DeubaDeuba's son Jaybir is believed to have a major share in the hotel.

“I can't say who will be the next Prime Minister of Nepal, but we want someone who is going to do good for the country. The situation is not good as of now. The army has taken over the streets. Balen Shah is one candidate who is more likely to be the Prime Minister of Nepal, as per people's opinion,” a Nepal resident told ANI.

China urged its citizens in Nepal Wednesday to "pay close attention to safety", after protesters set parliament ablaze and forced the prime minister to quit in the worst violence to hit the Himalayan nation in two decades.

"It is hoped that all sectors of Nepal can properly handle domestic issues and quickly restore social order and national stability. China has already reminded its citizens in Nepal to pay close attention to safety," foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a regular press briefing.

“We hereby inform that the flights suspended due to adverse circumstances would now be lifted, which has been made in accordance with the decision of the Tribhuvan International Airport Security Committee meeting held today. Uttarakhand Police Headquarters states that, in view of the current situation in Nepal, the state police are fully vigilant and on alert.

PHQ stated that Uttarakhand shares a direct border with Nepal, and accordingly, joint patrolling and surveillance are being carried out in the border areas of Pithoragarh by the police force and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

“Air India flights to and from Kathmandu on 10 September have been cancelled as the airport continues to remain closed. We are closely monitoring the situation and will share further update,” Air India says in a statement.

The Nepal Army on Wednesday imposed nationwide restrictive orders followed by a curfew to quell possible violence under the guise of protest, a day after deadly anti-government demonstrations forced Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s resignation, leaving key buildings in flames and the nation on edge.

Amid unrest in Nepal, the Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) postponed all Chartered Accountants (CA) examinations that were slated to take place in Kathmandu this week.

However, ICAI will conduct the CA exams as per schedule at all other examination centres across India and other parts of the world.

The official notification stated, “No. 13-CA (EXAM)/SEPTEMBER/2025/IV: In continuation of the Institute’s Important Announcement No. 13-CA(EXAM)/SEPTEMBER/2025 dated 30th May 2025, read with Announcement No. 13-CA (EXAM)/SEPTEMBER/2025/II dated 2nd September 2025 and Announcement No. 13-CA (EXAM)/SEPTEMBER/2025/III dated 5th September 2025 , it is announced for general information that in view of the widespread protests in Nepal , the Chartered Accountants Examinations scheduled to be held on 9th and 10th September 2025 stand postponed in Kathmandu (Nepal) only.”

President Ramchandra Paudel's residence in Kathmandu's Bohratar was vandalised by demonstrators on Tuesday.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane was reportedly addressed protesters on Tuesday at Nakkhu Prison. In a purported video shared by RSP central member Krantishikha Dhital, Rabi Lamichhane addressed the protesters.

The United Nations in Nepal expressed concern over the tragic loss of lives following violence during the Gen Z-led protests and urged authorities to ensure that law enforcement responses conform with international human rights standards.

"All allegations of excessive use of force should be investigated promptly in an independent, transparent and impartial manner," UN's statement said.

It added, “The voices of young Nepalis have been heard loud and clear, and Nepal will benefit from taking concrete steps to address the root causes of the issues raised and ensuring a prosperous future for young Nepalis.”
