Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's potential divorce will be a good plot for streamers, suggested journalist and screenwriter Marina Hyde in a podcast with co-host Richard Osman. She alleged that Netflix is keeping ties with Sussexes despite recent flops for possible future projects.
Contemplating that the streaming giant Netflix will not renew the Royal couple's contract, screenwriter Marina Hyde suggested that they might say that they are continuing to develop projects with them but in reality, they would not.
In her podcast, she can be heard saying “People are hanging around in case there's a divorce.” According to Marina Hyde, streaming platforms may continue to maintain connections with the Sussexes to "keep a vague hand in," despite poor reviews and viewing figures Duchess of Sussex's recent show received. "With Love, Meghan" proved to be a fresh setback for the couple.
Marina Hyde implied that streamers anticipate a split sometime in future. Hence, Netflix would not cut-off its connections with the couple amid potential prospects of making a series about a potential Sussex divorce which would prove to be a ratings winner. Describing subsequent projects for Netflix as flops, Marina Hyde added, “That might be why Netflix, or whoever it might be, who's got to deal with them, might keep a vague hand in.”
As per Marina Hyde, the couple already had their main television success with the Harry & Meghan documentary in 2022. Osman suggested Meghan should return to acting and said, “Meghan is an actress. Cast her in something. This is what I advise Meghan, take a job in something.”
In Meghan Markle's new Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” the Duchess corrected actress Mindy Kaling, who referred to her as Meghan Markle, and said that her last name was Sussex. In the second episode of the series, Meghan said, “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle,” and added, “You know I’m Sussex now.”
