Renukaswamy Murder case: Karnataka High Court on Friday granted regular bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa Srinivas, Pavitra Gowda and seven other arrested co-accused in the Renukaswamy murder case.
On June 11, the police arrested the Kannada actor for allegedly killing his fan. The deceased allegedly sent obscene messages to his friend Pavithra Gowda. The actor outraged over the fans misbehaviour reportedly killed Renukaswamy.
Initially, the Kanada actor was lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru. He was transferred to Ballari Central Jail after a photograph went viral showing him relaxing with some of the jail inmates. According to PTI report, Darshan Thoogudeepa is undergoing treatment at a hospital for back pain.
The lifeless body of 33-year-old Renukaswamy was found on June 9, near a drain in Bengaluru's Sumanahalli. Medical examination of the deceased's body revealed that is had multiple injuries. As investigations followed, it was discovered that Renukaswamy was abducted from Chitradurga and allegedly tortured before his death.
Subsequent investigations implicated actor Darshan, his associate Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others. "Darshan beat up Renukaswamy with a belt. After he fell unconscious, his accomplices thrashed him with sticks. Further, they threw him against a wall, which proved fatal," PTI reported quoting sources.
Two accused approached Kamakshipalya police and "confessed" to the crime, claiming it to be over a financial dispute, when the police were working on the case. However, inconsistencies in their statements led authorities to suspect a larger conspiracy. Police found out about Darshan and Pavithra's involvement during the course of investigation.
Pavithra allegedly instigated Darshan to punish Renukaswamy, and the plan was consequently hatched and executed, according to media reports.
Following this, Darshan engaged Fan Club Convenor Raghavendra alias Raghu, to pick Renukaswamy from the area near his house. It was found that Renukaswamy was abducted and taken to a shed at Kamakshipalya in Bengaluru.
On June 11, 2024, Darshan was arrested in Mysuru and brought to Bengaluru for questioning. By June 16, all suspects were arrested and produced before the court.
