
A SpiceJet plane hit an Akasa Air flight parked at the Delhi airport on Thursday, April 16. Both airlines released a statement confirming the incident. However, none of them named the other in their official remarks.
A spokesperson said in a statement that Akasa Air flight QP 1406, operating from Delhi to Hyderabad, had to return to the bay on April 16, 2026.
“Preliminary information indicates that Akasa’s aircraft was stationary when another airline’s aircraft made contact with it,” The statement said, without naming SpiceJet aircraft.
The airline informed that all passengers and crew were safely disembarked, and “our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to fly our passengers to Hyderabad at the earliest.”
The SpiceJet airline said in a statement that on April 16, a SpiceJet B737-700 aircraft was involved in a “ground occurrence while taxiing at Delhi airport.”
The incident led to “damage to its right winglet and the left-hand horizontal stabiliser of another aircraft belonging to a different airline.”
“The SpiceJet aircraft has been grounded at Delhi,” the SpiceJet Spokesperson added.
Wings of an Akasa Air plane and a SpiceJet plane came into contact on the taxiway atDelhi airport on Thursday, news agency PTI reported.
The officials said the Akasa Air aircraft was taxiing for takeoff, and the SpiceJet was taxiing towards the parking stand when the incident happened at around 2.15 pm at Terminal 1 of the airport.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737 MAX 8.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a statement following the Akasa Air-SpiceJet planes incident at Delhi airport, saying, “On 16.04.2026, winglet of Spicejet B-737-700 aircraft VT-SLB taxying in to the allocated parking bay No. 106 after operating flight SG-124 (Leh-Delhi) at Terminal 1 hit the Horizontal tail surface (HTS) of Akasa B-737 aircraft positioned on the apron after push back for operating flight QP 1406 (Delhi-Hyderabad).”
“Due to the impact…winglet of Spicejet aircraft and HTS of Akasa aircraft is damaged,” the DGCA said.
“The DGCA is carrying out further investigation. Concerned Air Traffic control officer and the involved pilots of SpiceJet have been off rostered pending investigation,” the DGCA said.
