Prabhsimran Singh caught Delhi Capitals off guard as the Punjab Kings batter became only the third player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to smash six fours in an over. The incident took place on the final over of the powerplay during Punjab Kings' successful chase of 265 on Saturday.

Chasing a mammoth 265, Punjab Kings were off to a flying start with Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya setting the platform. With 92 runs on the board after five overs, Prabhsimran decided to launch an attack on Mukesh Kumar, smashing him for six fours in the over.

In the process, Prabhsimran also became the third after Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane to achieve the feat. Rahane (playing for Rajasthan Royals) was the first batter to hit six fours in an over in 2012 against then Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Sreenath Aravind.

Nine years later, Delhi Capitals' Shaw repeated the same against Kolkata Knight Riders' Shivam Mavi. Prabhsimran's innings set the tone for Punjab Kings' chase with a 126-run stand with Priyansh Arya as the right-hander plundered 76 runs in just 26 balls, studded with nine fours and five sixes.

KL Rahul blended grace with power to script a stroke-filled 152 not out, the third-highest individual IPL score, while Nitish Rana (91) batted with authority as the duo powered hosts Delhi Capitals to a mammoth 264/2.

Chasing the target, Punjab's dynamic opening pair of Prabhsimran and Priyansh (43) came out all guns blazing and set the tone for their sixth win of the season. Skipper Shreyas Iyer, who was dropped by Karun Nair twice in the span of three balls, then scored an unbeaten 71 off 36 deliveries to take PBKS over the line with as many as seven balls to spare. .

Incidentally, the previous highest successful run chase in T20 as well as IPL history also belongs to Punjab Kings when they chased down 262 against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. They remain unbeaten this season and on top of the points table with 13 points from seven games.
