Dubai's Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Sheikh Hamdan), has welcome his fourth child, a baby girl, named ‘Hind’ on March 22.
According to a report by Gulf News, the Dubai's Prime Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum confirmed the family's new arrival in a social media post and shared the news of her birth, her name and offered a prayer for her.
The post read: “O Allah, grant her a heart filled with your love, make her a source of light and guidance, and clothe her in the garments of health and well-being.”
So, why the name Hind? According to the report, the name has been derived from the name of the Crown Prince's mother — Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum. His child's name thus honours his mother's name.
The Arabic name Hind, was the name of one of Prophet Muhammad's companions. Besides this, according to TheBump.com, Hind is also used to refer to a group of camels, and female deer and is the Arabic name for the country, India.
The Crown Prince of Dubai since 2008, Sheikh Hamdan, is also the Deputy Prime Minister (since July 2024) and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since July 2024.
More popularly known by the nickname “Fazza” (his social media handles also use the name), Sheikh Hamdan is the second son of Dubai's Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his wife Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum.
In 2019, Sheikh Hamdan married his cousin, Sheikha Sheikha bint Saeed bin Thani Al Maktoum, a fellow member of Dubai's ruling Al Maktoum family. The couple have four children — twin daughter and son Sheikha and Rashid (born in May 2021); son Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum (born in February 2023); and now daughter Hind (born March 2025).
