Jesse Eisenberg, who received immense appreciation for his role as Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 film The Social Network, has said he no longer wants to be “associated” with the Meta CEO. In a recent interview with BBC, the 41-year-old actor said he no longer wants to be “associated with someone like that”.
Jesse Eisenberg was nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Social Network. The movie, based on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, proved to be a major milestone in his life and a major link between him and the tech billionaire.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Tuesday, Jesse Eisenberg disapproved of Mark Zuckerberg-led Facebook's policy changes. Recently, Meta announced major changes in terms of factchecking and privacy.
“It’s like this guy is … doing things that are problematic, taking away fact-checking,” Jesse Eisenberg told BBC Radio 4.
“These people have billions upon billions of dollars, like more money than any human person has ever amassed and what are they doing with it?” BBC quoted Jesse Eisenberg.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced last month that it would eliminate the use of independent fact-checkers on its social media sites. These fact-checkers would be replaced by “community notes” on Threads, Facebook and Instagram.
Meta's move to replace independent fact-checkers with community-driven notes follows a path created by Elon Musk's social media platform X.
According to AFP, several experts have raised concerns about the decision to remove fact-checkers and warned that the move may lead to the spread of misinformation on social media.
Fact-checkers have long played an important role in curbing misinformation on various platforms, especially on topics like politics, public health and climate change. By verifying claims and providing context, they have helped platforms maintain a degree of accountability.
