A US-based couple set a Guinness World Record after they married each other with their combined ages of 202 years. The 100-year-old man and 102-year-old woman have made a world record of becoming the oldest newly-wed couple after beating the centenarian couple Bernie Littman and Marjorie Fiterman.
Marjorie Fiterman, 102, and Bernie Littman, 100, tied the knot after being in a relationship for more than ten years. Their combined age is 202 years and 271 days, the GWR confirmed on Tuesday, December 3.
“102-year-old Marjorie Fiterman and 100-year-old Bernie Littman married in May 2024, becoming the oldest couple to marry. Proof that you're never too old to find love,” read a post by the official X account of Guinness World Records.
The Guinness World Record also shared a video of the oldest newly-wed couple celebrating their marriage. After their spouses passed away, the two moved into the same floor of a senior living facility in Philadelphia, USA.
Both of them tied the knot on 19 May, 2024. They decided to marry each other after dating each other for nine years. After their marriage, Bernie Littman and Marjorie Fiterman are the oldest couple to marry each other.
Bernie met Marjorie for the first time at a costume party on their floor at a retirement home. Their romance began shortly after they had their first date on the same day one his great-granddaughters was born.
“Congrats,” commented a user on the post shared by Guinnes World Record.
“Congratulations to them, it’s worth celebrating for sure,” commented a user in another post on Marjorie and Bernie.
“Can't believe they waited this long just to break a break a record, talk about dedication [sic]”
“Create your own happiness [sic]”
“Oh wow. This is quite wholesome [sic]”
Bernie's granddaughter Sarah Sicherman expressed her happiness after he married Litterman. She told the Jewish Chronicle that the whole family was “thrilled” for the couple and they were “so lucky to have found each other and be a support to each other, especially during the pandemic.”
The family expected that the two would not choose to marry each other and remain in a relationship because of their age. That's why the news of marriage came as a “surprise” to them.
