US Vice President has been accused of being ‘controlling’ and ‘demanding’ of his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri Vance, after a video of his remarks directed at her went viral on social media.
Speaking at an event in Michigan, JD Vance was heard praising the second lady, his wife, who stood beside him. Moments later, he remarked that she had no other choice but to laugh and smile at everything he does.
“I think she's doing a great job as second lady of the United States and I'm so proud to have her back... by my side. Here's the thing. The cameras are all on; anything I say, no matter how crazy, she has to smile, laugh, and celebrate it,” Vance was heard telling a gathering that included the media.
Usha Chilukuri was seen smiling at the remark along with the audience.

The video, shared by an account named ‘Anonymous’ went viral on X.
Most users were disturbed by the comments made by the vice president.
“JD Vance’s comment about his wife was demeaning and controlling. It’s another example of his arrogance, showing disrespect even to his spouse on a public stage. His pattern of divisive remarks proves he’s unfit for leadership,” a user said.
“With a husband like him, she surely doesn’t need enemies,” another added.
“There's always, ALWAYS, some truth in humor,” a third user chimed in.
A person also drew comparison with how Vance treated Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House during his meeting with Donald Trump.
“Trumps’ clan have no manners. You can tell by the way they treated Zelensky, and now this. It’s gross,” the user said.
Usha Vance, an Indian-American lawyer and the daughter of immigrants from Andhra Pradesh, made history as the first Indian-American Second Lady.
Her South-Asian descent is due to her Indian immigrant parents, who arrived in America in 1986.
She was born in San Diego and was raised in an upper-middle-class suburb.
Usha Chilukuri met JD Vance for the first time at Yale Law School, where they later received scholarships. The couple tied the knot in Kentucky in 2014.
