Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has not ruled out a run for the presidency in 2028, saying in a recent interview that she expects a woman to lead the United States in the coming years—and it “possibly” could be her.
“I am not done,” Harris told BBC.
Harris dismissed the idea that polls could dictate her political choices, recalling her long career of public service:
“I have lived my entire career a life of service and it’s in my bones. And there are many ways to serve. I’ve never listened to polls. If I listened to polls I would have not run for my first office, or my second office—and I certainly wouldn't be sitting here.”
Harris also reflected on her predictions regarding Donald Trump, asserting that her warnings about authoritarian behavior had come true.
“He said he would weaponize the Department of Justice—and he has done exactly that,” she said, pointing to the suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel by ABC following a joke about Republicans’ reaction to the death of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk.
She added: “You look at what has happened in terms of how he has weaponised, for example, federal agencies going after political satirists… His skin is so thin he couldn't endure criticism from a joke, and attempted to shut down an entire media organisation in the process.”
Harris also criticized US business leaders and institutions she believes have capitulated to Trump’s demands.
“There are many… that have capitulated since day one, who are bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant, I believe for many reasons, including they want to be next to power, because they want to perhaps have a merger approved or avoid an investigation.”
Harris recently released her memoir, 107 Days, which chronicles her whirlwind campaign after replacing Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee in 2024, following Biden’s withdrawal due to concerns about his mental acuity. She ultimately lost to Trump.
