Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, who has faced accusations of promoting antisemitic views, stated that he and Charlie Kirk had advised US President Donald Trump “not to get involved in the Israel war”.
In Tucker Carlson's Show, he said, “They (Israelis) are not actually allies in any sense.”
Netanyahu is the first and only sitting Israeli prime minister to face trial, charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three separate cases that allege he exchanged favours with wealthy political supporters.
Netanyahu denies the charges and, in rhetoric reminiscent of Donald Trump, has labelled the trial a witch hunt orchestrated by the media, police, and judiciary.
“And so very few people pushed back, very few. In fact, as far as I know, only two people, me and Charlie Kirk, actually went and spoke directly to the president to make the case that, no, you shouldn't get involved in this war because its aim is not actually to deny Iran a nuclear weapon. That may be a virtuous goal, but that’s not really what this is about,” Tucker said.
Netanyahu has testified multiple times over the past year, though the trial has faced repeated delays due to wars and unrest following Hamas-led militant attacks in October 2023.
What this is about is luring the United States into yet another regime change war. And if you do that, it's bad for everybody, including you. That’s the case that we made. Charlie went to the White House to make that case, and god bless him for doing that. And he was hated for doing that. But he did it. Very few other people did. In fact, as far as I know, none, he further added.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on 10 September while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University. He was the founder of Turning Point USA, an organisation aimed at mobilising young voters for conservative causes, and played a significant role in rallying youth support for Trump's election campaigns.
In Wednesday's letter to President Isaac Herzog, Trump called the corruption case “political, unjustified prosecution.”
“As the Great State of Israel and the amazing Jewish People move past the terribly difficult times of the last three years, I hereby call on you to fully pardon Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been a formidable and decisive wartime Prime Minister, and is now leading Israel into a time of peace,” Trump wrote.
One month after a ceasefire was declared in the Gaza Strip, Israel has reportedly violated the agreement nearly every day, resulting in hundreds of deaths, Al Jazeera reported.
According to Gaza's Government Media Office, between 10 October and 10 November, Israel breached the ceasefire at least 282 times through airstrikes, artillery fire, and direct shootings.
The office detailed that Israeli forces fired on civilians 88 times, raided residential areas beyond the “yellow line” 12 times, conducted 124 airstrikes, and destroyed property on 52 occasions. Additionally, 23 Palestinians from Gaza were reportedly arrested over the past month.
