One person was dead, and several others were injured after a midsize business jet collided with another aeroplane parked on private property at the Scottsdale Airport in Arizona, authorities on Monday.
One jet veered off the runway after its landing gear failed on the runway and collided with the Gulfstream 200 jet that was parked, reported the Associated Press, citing Kelli Kuester, aviation planning and outreach coordinator at the Scottsdale Airport.
Four people were onboard in the arriving jet. They were coming from Austin and Texas. Another person was present inside the parked plane at the time of the accident.
The video of the collision was shared by US media outlet, BNO News on X.
The runway was temporarily shut down due to the accident, and all services will remain closed until the rescue team clears the accident site.
Fire Department officials reached the spot to rescue the people in the accident. Officials sent severely injured passengers to hospital for treatment. One person's dead body was recovered from the accident site, and family members were informed.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody involved in this,” AP quoted Scottsdale Fire Department Capt. Dave Folio.
The airport is a popular landing spot for private jets, especially during big sports events like the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament, which attracts huge crowds just a few miles away.
The Scottsdale collision is the recent addition to the list of aviation accidents held in US over the past few weeks. More than 65 people were dead after a commercial aircraft collided with an Army helicopter in Washington DC on January 29. The rescue operation was carried out for days. No passenger survived the accident. In another accident a medical transportation plane crashed in Philadelphia on Jan. 31, killing the six people on board and another person on the ground.
Last week a small commuter plane crashed in western Alaska on its way to the hub community of Nome, killing all 10 people on board.
