Venezuela bombing: Several explosions and low-flying aircraft were heard around 2 am local time on Saturday in Venezuela before US President Donald Trump confirmed that that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had been captured in a military operation sanctioned by him.

As videos of explosions and helicopters flying in started coming in from Venezuela, Trump confirmed a “large scale strike”, adding that Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores had been captured and flown out of Venezuela.

While the Venezuelan President and his wife were on their way to the US following their capture, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that they had been indicted in New York on several charges, including alleged "drug trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracies".

Late on Saturday night, the Venezuelan President and his wife arrived in New York in handcuffs, and are slated to be jailed.

Trump, meanwhile, has announced that the US plans to run Venezuela till a proper transition of power, and has said that American troops will stay out of Venezuelan soil if Vice President Delcy Rodrigues complies to his wishes.

Maduro's capture was condemned by opposition lawmakers in the US, as well as by the international community, and the situation in the Americas remains a volatile one.
