Washington DC Plane Crash Highlights: A regional jet crashed into a US Army helicopter, killing 67 people in the deadliest US air disaster in more than 20 years. The DC Fire and EMS Department said that 41 bodies have so far been recovered from the wreckage of the plane crash in the Potomac River.

Washington DC Plane Crash Highlights: An American Airlines flight with 64 aboard collided with an Army helicopter, Black Hawk, while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington on Wednesday. President Donald Trump , while addressing the media from White house, clarified that there are no survivors. He also attacked former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for their wrong policies on aviation.

Meanwhile, the DC Fire and EMS Department said today that 41 bodies have so far been recovered from the wreckage of the plane crash in the Potomac River, reported NBC News.

The department added that the operations were to resume after sunrise this morning, with divers continuing victim recovery efforts.

The flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been recovered from the passenger jet that crashed into Washington's Potomac River after a deadly midair collision with a military helicopter, US media reported.

Sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to CBS News and ABC News on Thursday that the recording devices commonly known as black boxes were recovered from the crashed plane operated by an American Airlines subsidiary and would be analyzed by the National Transportation Safety Board, which is leading the investigation.

US President Donald Trump's statement on plane crash

US President Donald Trump expressed grief over the matter and said, “I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident which just took place at Reagan National Airport. May God bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work being done by first responders."

Later, Donald Trump said that the plane crash could have been prevented. "Why didn't the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding: “NOT GOOD!!!"

Washington DC Plane Crash LIVE: Following the tragic plane crash, the Federal Aviation Administration has issued new flight restrictions for helicopters in the Washington, D.C., area and the Reagan National Airport (DCA), reported NBC News.

In addition, FAA said that Zone 1, which covers the airspace between certain bridges, is currently not active, while in Zone 4, helicopters are now only permitted to fly south of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

The FAA said that exceptions will be made for medical evacuation and law enforcement operations.
