The protesting wrestlers will hold a Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat on May 28 outside the new Parliament on the day of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sakshi Malik has said that the protesting wrestlers will ensure to remain peaceful and not indulge in any kind of violence.
“We are holding 'Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat' on May 28 in front of the new Parliament building. We ensure to remain peaceful and not indulge in any kind of violence," protesting wrestler Sakshi Malik said.
It's been over a month now that the top wrestlers of the country are sitting at the iconic Jantar Mantar in protest against Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan, who they have accused of sexual harassment of seven women grapplers, including a minor.
In the past one month, the protesting wrestlers have visited various places in the national capital, including Bangla Sahid Gurudwara and Rajghat among others to garner support for their movement against Brij Bhushan.
The wrestlers also took out a candlelight march on May 23 on the completion of one month of their agitation.
PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on Sunday, May 28. Ahead of the Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat outside the new Parliament building, the protesting wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, have been trying to garner support in their battle against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by touring different parts of North India.
Ahead of their mahapanchayat on May 28, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat visited Jind in Haryana to seek support from women organisation, Sakshi Malik, on the other hand, reached Punjab. Wrestler Sangeeta Phogat said they all have been garnering support from khap members.
"Vinesh and Bajrang are meeting khap leaders in Jind and Sakshi and Satyawart are in Punjab to seek more support for our Maha Panchayat on May 28," Sangeeta Phogat said, adding, “We are determined to hold the panchayat near new Parliament building if our demand for the arrest of Brij Bhushan is not met."
