45 bags with human remains found in Mexico, prosecutors see link to missing group

Human remains were discovered in 45 bags in western Mexico this week, with officials suggesting that it were the remains of several missing call centre employees. The discovery was made in a ravine on the outskirts of Jalisco's capital city, Guadalajara amid an ongoing search for the missing individuals.
"According to preliminary information, the findings...in the Mirador Escondido neighborhood in Zapopan coincided with the physical characteristics of some of the young people being searched for," reports quoted a statement by the Jalisco Prosecutor's Office to add.
The authorities are still working to identify the remains and determine how many individuals the remains pertain to. Local media said the remains belonged to both men and women.

Initial investigations have linked the missing employees to illegal activities - an allegation hotly contested by their families. Local media reported that the authorities had found marijuana, a cloth and a cleaning rag with apparent blood stains as well as documents on possible commercial activities.
According to government data, over 100,000 people are currently missing in Mexico, where organized crime has ravaged parts of the country. Officials said that the difficult terrain and lack of sunlight had complicated the investigation.
