The fake images of the explosion at a Pentagon were reported as real by multiple news platforms evoking some chaos and the markets were also affected with S&P 500 falling by 30 points

AI-generated image which showed an explosion at the Pentagon, a key military site in the United States went viral on social media on Monday. The fake image of the explosion were reported as real by multiple news platforms evoking some chaos and the markets were also affected with S&P 500 falling by 30 points minutes after the news.

Arlington police department confirmed in a tweet that the pictures were fake. "@PFPAOfficial and the ACFD are aware of a social media report circulating online about an explosion near the Pentagon. There is NO explosion or incident taking place at or near the Pentagon reservation, and there is no immediate danger or hazards to the public," the police said.

The image was shared by multiple accounts and some even recognized it as generated using artificial intelligence, but a lot of confusion prevailed, forcing Pentagon the to clarify that no such explosion has taken place

"We can confirm this was a false report and the Pentagon was not attacked today," a spokesperson said.

The incident in question occurred as a result of a series of previous instances involving AI-generated fake images that garnered attention online. These instances included depictions of former US president Donald Trump being arrested and Pope Francis donning a puffer jacket.
