1 min read 09 Jun 2023, 08:54 PM ISTAir India's Mumbai to San Francisco flight was delayed for 8 hours and subsequently cancelled due to technical issues with the Boeing 777 aircraft. Passengers have been offered alternative flights or a full refund, as well as reimbursement for hotel and transportation expenses

Tata group owned Air India's troubled relationships with San Francisco bound flights do not seem on end. On Friday, a Mumbai to San Francisco flight was delayed for 8 hours, following which the flight was cancelled. Air India cited technical issue in the Boeing 777 aircraft.
The Air India authorities ‘regretted’ the disruption and in an official notice said that the affected people have been offered the option of alternative flights or a full refund for the cancelled flight.
Air India also informed that they would reimburse all the expenses passengers will incur towards hotel accommodation and transportation until they take a flight, an airline spokesperson said in a statement.
Flight AI180 was scheduled to operate from San Francisco to Mumbai on June 8 and was cancelled due to an "unforeseen technical issue".
The flight was initially delayed by a few hours due to some issues with an aircraft tyre, and subsequently, the flight was cancelled, PTI reported.
On June 6, an Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew on board was diverted to the Magadan port city in far east Russia following a mid-air glitch in one of the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft engines.
All were stranded in the port city for two days, and the replacement aircraft ferried them to San Francisco on 8 June.
Meanwhile, Air India chief Campbell Wilson on 9 June said that the airliner has put together a 'huge financing deal' related to its new fleet in a remarkably quick time.
Earlier on 24 February, the Tata-owned aviation firm announced a historic order for buying 470 aircraft, including 250 from Airbus and 220 from Boeing.
Wilson, in his weekly message to the staff on Friday, said he wants to commend "the commercial, strategic procurement, finance, treasury, and legal teams for successfully putting together a huge financing deal related to our new fleet in remarkably quick time...it was another historic achievement for the new Air India".
