Two Canadian provinces - British Columbia and Manitoba - have invited candidates in the past two weeks of draws under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). These draws took place around the same time that Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced new selection categories for Express Entry candidates, which could include those who are also in the PNP.
IRCC says that not all draws going forward will be for the new categories and Express Entry PNP draws will continue to take place.
British Columbia conducted two PNP draws on May 23 and 30. In the May 23 draws, over 140 candidates were invited. The largest draw targeted tech occupations and invited 103 candidates from Skilled Worker and International Graduates streams, requiring a minimum SIRS score of 90, as per CIC News.
There were also draws for early childhood educators, healthcare workers, and other priority occupations, each with a minimum SIRS score of 60. On May 30, a general draw invited 151 candidates from various streams with SIRS scores ranging from 85-107. The remaining three draws mirrored those of the previous week.
On June 1, Manitoba's Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) extended invitations to a total of 589 candidates across three streams. Among them, 262 candidates were invited under the Skilled Workers in Manitoba category, which included occupations in finance, business, administration, transportation logistics, natural and applied sciences, front-line public protection services, and paraprofessional occupations. These candidates were required to have a minimum score of 607.
Additionally, 240 Skilled Workers were invited without any specific occupation requirements, with a minimum score of 669. Furthermore, the program invited 56 candidates under the International Graduate stream and 31 Skilled Workers Overseas, with minimum scores of 801.
The PNP is a part of Canada's broader Immigration Levels Plan, which aims to welcome 117,500 new permanent residents through the program each year by the end of 2025. This target is divided among the 11 provinces and territories that have PNP programs, with each province having a set number of nominations available.
