’Cricket, Curry, and Commonwealth’: PM Modi establishes 3 Cs connect between India, Australia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is addressing a community event in Australia's Sydney on Monday said that three C's join India and Australia which is otherwise divided in geographical terms. The three Cs- commonwealth, cricket, and curry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sydney on Monday as a guest of the Australian government and the visit builds on the Australia-India Annual Leaders' Summit in New Delhi in March and discussions at the G7 Summit and Quad Leaders' meeting in Hiroshima, Japan over the weekend.

PM Modi and Australian PM Anthony Albanese is attending a community event in Sydney to celebrate Australia's dynamic and diverse Indian diaspora, which according to the Australian government is "a core part" of its multicultural community.

During his speech PM Modi said that the Indian Ocean connects the Indian subcontinent with the island continent in the southern hemisphere. 

Further, the Indian Prime Minister also said that India's cooking practices are different, but it is ‘Masterchef’ which connects the two lands. Masterchef Australia is a popular cooking reality TV Show that has in recent years also seen a significant representation of Indian contestants and Indian cuisine. 

The cricket connect between India and Australia is no alien concept. From World Cups to Test championships, Indian cricket teams has always found a formidable opposition in Australia. 

For the third C- Commonwealth, both India and Australia share a colonial history of being ruled by the British. These countries have been grouped under the Commonwealth nations that were former colonials of Britain. 

Sydney suburb renamed ‘Little India’

A street in Sydney, Australia was on Tuesday officially renamed as "Little India" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese during a special community event.

Harris Park is a hub in Western Sydney where the Indian community celebrates festivals and events such as Diwali and Australia Day.

The announcement to declare Harris Park as 'Little India' was made by Australian Prime Minister Albanese as he welcomed Modi at the community event.

The first proposal for officially naming the area 'Little India' was made in 2015.
