The Kremlin has rubbished reports that President Vladimir Putin suffered a heart attack over the weekend. Unverified reports had indicated that the Russian leader collapsed in his bedroom after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday. Visuals shared online also showed Putin sporting 'scars on his neck' while he addressed a public event.

Claims about Putin's deteriorating health have repeatedly surfaced since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a year ago. Eagle eyes netizens have flagged ‘uncontrollable’ tremors during public events, claimed Putin was using ‘body doubles’ and more. British publication Metro had also claimed in April that the Russian President was suffering from ‘severe pain in his head, blurred vision, and numbness of the tongue’.

The latest claims appear to have originated from a Kremlin-tracking Telegram channel before it was picked up by several news publications. The Mirror reported that Putin had been 'resuscitated' after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. Express UK also flagged claims that the President had required intensive care at a facility located within his official residence.

“Everything is fine with him, this is absolutely another fake," Reuters quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as telling reporters.

He also laughed off claims that Putin was using a body double as ‘absurd’. The Russian leader had previously denied the longstanding rumours during a 2020 interview. Putin however noted that he had been offered the chance to use one in the past for security reasons.

“This belongs to the category of absurd information hoaxes that a whole series of media discuss with enviable tenacity. This evokes nothing but a smile," Peskov added on Tuesday.

Meanwhile Putin has continued with his intensive schedule of meetings and public appearances this week. He is slated to hold a meeting with Russian religious leaders on Wednesday.
