
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck central Iran early Friday, according to Iranian state television. The quake hit near the city of Behabad in Yazd province, and there were no initial reports of injuries or damage.
Iran sits on several significant seismic fault lines and experiences roughly one quake per day, a report by Reuters noted.
From October 4 to 10, the seismological networks of the University of Tehran’s Institute of Geophysics recorded 133 earthquakes nationwide.
According to IRNA, 117 of these quakes measured below magnitude 3, 15 were between 3 and 4, and one registered between 4 and 5.
Isfahan Province reportedly experienced the highest number of tremors (24), followed by Fars and Yazd with 11 each, while Kerman and Khorasan Razavi each recorded 10. Tehran Province also saw one earthquake during this period, whereas West Azarbaijan, Alborz, Ilam, Qazvin, Kordestan, Sistan-Baluchestan, and Zanjan had no seismic activity.
Over the previous Iranian calendar year (March 2024–March 2025), the Institute’s networks registered a total of 6,272 earthquakes across the country, a report by Tehran Times noted.
A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Anchorage metropolitan area Thursday morning, the US Geological Survey said, as per an AP report. The quake occurred at approximately 8:11 am local time at a depth of 69 kilometers (43 miles). Its epicenter was 12 kilometers (7 miles) west-northwest of Susitna, Alaska, roughly 108 kilometers (67 miles) northwest of Anchorage. No significant damage was reported.
Municipal inspectors found no issues with critical public infrastructure, according to Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance’s social media update. The US Tsunami Warning System confirmed that a tsunami was not expected.
Meanwhile, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Indian Ocean on Thursday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, increasing the likelihood of aftershocks.
The NCS confirmed on X: "EQ of M: 5.3, On: 27/11/2025 11:02:45 IST, Lat: 1.30 N, Long: 96.87 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Indian Ocean."
Earlier the same day, the region experienced a 6.4-magnitude earthquake, also at a 10 km depth. According to the NCS: "EQ of M: 6.4, On: 27/11/2025 10:26:25 IST, Lat: 2.99 N, Long: 96.23 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Indian Ocean."
