Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron, is set to embark on a one-day trip to the Indian capital on Thursday. His visit aims to solidify the bilateral agenda and potential outcomes for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming two-day visit to Paris.

While details of the visit remain undisclosed by South Block, a Hindustan Times report cited that Bonne will engage in intense discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Additionally, he is expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before departing for France later that evening.

This series of meetings will lay the foundation for the bilateral talks between PM Modi and President Macron on July 13, as well as the grand celebration on Bastille Day, July 14.

India and France share a strong alliance, united in their fight against terrorism and their common interests in the Indo-Pacific. France has shown its commitment to this partnership by refusing to provide weapons or platforms to India's adversaries in the north and west.

Furthermore, France has offered to co-develop and manufacture high-thrust engines for India's future combat aircraft, as well as build Scorpene submarines for other countries at Mazagon Dockyards Limited (MDL) to ensure the facility remains active.

Additionally, France has extended its support to India's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative by offering to manufacture advanced missiles and ammunition within the country.

The Indian Navy has recommended the purchase of 26 Rafale-Maritime jet fighters, including eight trainers, for the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier. The decision is pending approval from the Modi government, and the acquisition may occur through a government-to-government (G2G) route. The recommendation follows the testing of the Rafale-Maritime and US-made F-18 fighters at the Goa shore-based testing facility. Meanwhile, India and France are working towards a significant visit by PM Modi to Paris. In their discussions, high-level officials are likely to address the ongoing Ukraine war's impact on Europe and review the Chinese PLA's expanding presence in the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic regions.
