Elon Musk, world's second richest man and the CEO of Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX, Monday said he was very impressed with President Macron, the French government and the way they are welcoming the industry to the country.
The billionaire businessman, who is on a visit to country for a summit aimed at attracting foreign business leaders, said he was considering "significant investments in France" after meeting President Emmanuel Macron and Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire.
French Economy Minister Maire said he is confident that in the future Tesla will be making significant investments in France, news agency AFP reported.
"I'm confident that in the future Tesla will be making significant investments in France."
France would "continue discussions" with Musk, Le Maire added but refused to share any further details.
Macron sought to persuade Elon Musk on Monday that France is a leading hub for foreign investments and electric cars as the president tries to attract global business to his country.
Macron and Musk earlier met at the Elysee Palace before heading to Versailles for the latest edition of the president's Choose France conference where Macron seeks to drum up investment in the country.
"We talked about the attractiveness of France and the significant progress in the electric vehicle and energy sectors," Macron said.
“With @ElonMusk, we talked about the attractiveness of France and the significant progress in the electric vehicle and energy sectors. We also talked about digital regulation. We have so much to do together. See you this afternoon at the #ChooseFrance Summit!”, Macron twitted.
Macron and the Tesla CEO also discussed Europe and France’s response to US President Joe Biden’s green subsidy plan known as the Inflation Reduction Act, news agency Bloomberg reported. The law, which will offer some $369 billion in handouts and tax credits over the next decade for clean-energy programs in North America, has been a point of contention between the US and the European Union.
"Negotiations are ongoing" with the world's second richest man, the BFMTV broadcaster reported citing Bruno Le Maire.
Le Maire gave no details of talks with Musk, saying simply that "all of today's investments are the fruit of months or even years of negotiations".
