The arrest of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan triggered violent protests across the country with supporters of the PTI chief storming the headquarters of Pakistan's army in Rawalpindi. The protestors thronged the residence of a Corps Commander level officer, with the government forced to impose several restrictions in the nuclear-armed country.
1. On Tuesday, Imran Khan was arrested from the premises of Islamabad High Court while he was going through the biometric authentication. The 72-year-old PTI chief is arrested by the Rangers, acting on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) orders, the country's anti-corruption watchdog.
2. While arresting Imran Khan the Rangers entered the court premises by breaking glasses and also manhandled the lawyer and security staff of the leader.
3. The videos of Imran Khan's arrest went viral on social media in which the leader can be seen dragged to the police vehicle amid the presence of hundreds of police personnel. The Islamabad Police later informed that the leader is arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
4. While a scuffle between Imran Khan's supporters and police broke out outside Islamabad high court only, the police tried to control the situation.
5. As the news of the arrest spread, the supporters of Imran came out on the street in large numbers, and mayhem was unleashed on the streets of Pakistan. The supporters of Imran Khan stormed the Pakistan Army headquarters and barged into Corps Commander's residence.
6. The residence of the Interior Minister of Pakistan Rana Sanaullah in Faisalabad was also attacked with Imran Khan supporters pelting stones on the leader's residence.
7. The authorities in Pakistan imposed emergency provisions in three of the four provinces as the violence spread and Imran Khan supporters blocked the major roads of the country.
8. The reports coming from the country also claim that social media sites like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook are also suspended in the country with the government mulling over an internet ban.
9. The Army became a special target of Imran Khan supporters as they believe it played a role in their leader's arrest. Recently, Imran Khan made some allegations against a senior officer of the spy agency ISI.
10. India is keeping a close eye on the developing situation in Pakistan and sources from the Defence authorities said that the forces are maintaining a strong vigil at the Line of Control (LoC).
