Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was arrested on Tuesday during a court appearance at the Islamabad High Court in dozens of cases pending against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief. The police said that Imran Khan was arrested in Al-Qadir Trust case, in which is wife and other PTI leaders are also involved.
The videos of his arrest are doing rounds on social media where Imran Khan can be seen dragged to a police vehicle surrounded by hundreds of police personnel. A scuffle also broke out between the police and the supporters of Imran Khan.
The PTI shared the video of Imran Khan's lawyer who was badly injured inside the premises of Islamabad High Court.
Amid the ruckus, the Islamabad police said that section 144 has been imposed in the city. The police rejected the claims of the PTI that people were tortured. The car of Imran Khan was encircled for security concerns around the leader, the police said.
Imran Khan is facing several cases against him across the country including for corruption during his tenure as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Islamabad police informed on Tuesday that Imran Khan was arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
The Al-Qadir Trust case pertains to accusations against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other leaders of his party PTI around the establishment of Al-Qadir University. The case is related to an alleged settlement between his government and a property tycoon, which led to a loss of ₹50 billion to the weak economy of Pakistan.
According to a report by GeoNews, the then Prime Minister Imran Khan and some other ministers of his government allegedly “adjusted the ₹50 billion” sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.
The leaders of the PTI are also accused of getting undue benefit in the form of over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University.
