During his three-nation tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Papua New Guinea for bilateral talks on Sunday. The Indo-Pacific nation not only made an exception of giving a ceremonial welcome to PM Modi after sunset, but PM James Marape went out of his way and touched PM Modi as a mark of respect at the airport on Sunday.

The courteous gesture of the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister has won the internet's heart and people can't stop talking about his polite behaviour. It is worth noting that this is the first-ever visit of any Indian Prime Minister to Papua New Guinea. The nation reciprocated the first visit of an Indian PM with a fully studded ceremonial welcome. Moreover, a traditional folk dance was also performed outside the airport to welcome PM Modi to PNG.

-The Papua New Guinea Prime Minister is serving in the position since 2019. He comes from the PANGU Pati political party.

-James Marape is the 8th prime minister of Papua New Guinea and before holding the position he served at major positions in previous governments.

-It is under his leadership, the nation made an exception to welcome Prime Minister Modi with a ceremonial program after sunset. The protocols of Papua New Guinea don't allow for any such welcome.

-James Marape completed his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Papua New Guinea in 1993.

-After that, he also pursued postgraduate honours in Environmental science. He also holds an MBA degree.

-Other than this, the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister has also worked as parliamentary secretary for works and transport. He has also worked as a member of the parliamentary referral committee on inter-government relations.

-Before joining the Pangu PATI party, he worked with the People's National Congress Party till 2019.

-In 2020, his government dodged an attempt to topple the ruling party with a no-confidence motion, reported HT citing Guardian.
