Prince Harry has lost his first bid to appeal against the dismissal of his legal challenge in the UK police protection case The development comes mere weeks after the London High Court upheld the government's decision to withdraw his security cover while he is in the island nation. The US-based Royal is slated to visit Britain in May for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.

“The reality of the matter is that the claimant considers he should receive a different approach to his protection whilst in the UK than RAVEC decided he should, based in part on his comparison of his own position with that of others," Reuters quoted Judge Peter Lane as saying.

Prince Harry can now apply directly to the Court of Appeal. He was also ordered to pay 90% of the Home Office's "reasonable costs" in defending the case.

The Duke of Sussex had sought the court's intervention after the Home Ministry decided in February 2020 that he would not automatically receive personal police security while in Britain. Harry had previously been eligible for full publicly-funded security protection from the state as a working senior royal. He stepped back from royal duties and moved to California with his American wife Meghan in March 2020.

Much has been said about the possibility of a reconciliation within the Royal family as two of its most senior members battle cancer. Media reports suggest that King Charles is considering an invite for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to a report by Page Six, the monarch is ‘desperate’ to meet his grandkids Archie and Lilibet this summer.

“I can see Charles desperately wanting to see the children and extending this olive branch to Meghan and Harry. He may decide that life is just too short," an insider told the publication.
