Prince Harry's memoir 'Spare' has become one of the best-selling books of 2023, in a list dominated by self-help books. The book was released on 11 January 2023 and gave an insight into the workings of the British royal family.
According to a report by Forbes, Prince Harry's 416-page memoir is the best-selling non-fiction book in the US, with more than 1 million copies sold. The report noted that non-fiction category had a rocky start to the year, lagging behind adult and young adult fiction until the launch of Spare by the Duke of Sussex.
Soon after its launch, Spare became the fastest-selling non-fiction book in the US since 2004. It also became one of the coveted top three bestsellers in its first week, behind Barack Obama's A Promised Land and Mitchell Obama's Becoming.
Apart from Prince Harry's book, all the other books on the non-fiction list are self-help books, an industry that has flourished between 2013 and 2019, with the number of titles published more than doubling in that period. Forbes reported that Atomic Habits by James Clear was the second bestselling book in the US with over 5,00,000 copies sold.
The other best-seller books in the non-fiction category include the Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene and the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Meanwhile, another new royal book is coming out in paperback next week which will make many shocking revelations about the royals including Kate wanting a tougher response to Harry and Meghan, and King Charles’ clearing out following the death of the Queen.
Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is expected to respond to the allegations of racism levelled against the royal family by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.
