Stabbing attack in Amsterdam: Five people injured near Dam Square, one arrested

Amsterdam stabbing attack: At least five people were wounded in a stabbing incident in Amsterdam, according to police on Thursday, March 27.

The attack occurred near Dam Square in central Amsterdam. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police have cordoned off the area, with multiple ambulances responding to the scene, and a trauma helicopter landing on the square, reported AP.

Injured evacuated

Early images from local news agency ANP showed a person on a stretcher being loaded into the back of an ambulance.

Reportedly, the injured had been evacuated but there was still a heavy police presence near the Dam Square area.

There was no immediate information on the condition of those wounded, reported AFP.

Amsterdam police have asked those who witnessed the attack to share any footage of the incident with authorities.

Videos from incident site surface on social media

One X user user alleged that the accused stabbed a young girl, an elderly woman, and three others. Multiple videos of ambulances and the trauma helicopter at the incident site, have surfaced on social media.

Stabber's 'motive unclear' says police

Local media reported that the stabbing interrupted a city council meeting involving Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema.

"We currently have no information about the cause or motive of the stabbing incident. This is part of our investigation," the police said in a statement, reported AFP.

Woman goes on stabbing spree in US

In other news, a woman stripped herself naked in the Texas airport, and went on a stabbing and biting spree in what police called a "manic episode".

According to the New York Post, the woman, identified as Samantha Palma, stabbed two airport staffers with a pencil and bit a restaurant manager. Videos of the attack have gone viral on social media.

In the two-minute video, the woman is also seen yelling and hurling abuses at the security personnel and throwing water in the airport premises.
