Swiss robotics major ABB confirms being hit by ransomware: Reports
Apokesperson at ABB -- Eike Christian Meuter -- said that the company has taken and continues to take, measures to contain the incident.
Zurich-headquartered robotics and automation major ABB Limited on 12 May recently was hit hit by cyberattack which disrupted it operations, reported ETCISO on 12 May.
The Swedish-Swiss firm even stated that the attack directly affected its certain locations and systems.
Speaking on the situation, group spokesperson at ABB -- Eike Christian Meuter -- said, as quoted by ETCISO that the company has taken and continues to take, measures to contain the incident.
He added that the measures resulted in some disruptions to its operations which the company is taking. "The vast majority of its systems and factories are now up and ABB continues to serve its customers in a secure manner," Meuter said.
"ABB continues to work diligently with its customers and partners to resolve this situation and minimise the attack," he added.
According to a report by BeepingComputer, reported on 7 May, ABB was attacked by a ransomware that was perpetrated by the Black Basta ransomware group. Details say that Black Basta is a relatively new entrant in the Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) space. It also also believed that Black Basta is 'rebranding' of the Conti ransomware group.
Reports say the ransomware attack had affected ABB's Windows Active Directory and 'hundreds of devices'. This resulted in delayed projects and affected factory operations, says report. Following this ABB terminated VPN connections to contain the attack and stop it from getting it spread to other networks.
