As Tesla chief, Elon Musk wrapped up his three-day tour to China, US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy called out on Elon Musk over his discussions with Chinese ministers. The Indian-origin Republican leader expressed his concern over China's influence on American business leaders.

He claimed that China was using prominent American business leaders as puppets to “advance their agenda". Notably, the Tesla chief was on his first visit to China post-Covid pandemic. During his visit, he announced expanding his business in the country. Moreover, he applauded China for its ‘vitality and promise’.

In his tweet, Ramaswamy mentioned that Elon Musk met China's foreign minister to oppose decoupling and referred to the US and Communist China as “conjoined twins". He also drew attention to the fact that Tesla's VP reposted the statement on Weibo in China, but abstained from doing so in the US.

Further, Vivek Ramaswamy reminded people of Elon Musk's unprompted call for the ‘reunification’ of Taiwan, which resulted in a favourable tax benefit to his company in Shanghai, days later.

“I’ve been one of the most vocal supporters of Elon’s effort to transform Twitter, but it’s a real risk to the U.S. when the CCP turns our most prominent business leaders & celebrities - Tim Cook, Larry Fink, LeBron James, Elon Musk - into puppets to advance their agenda. That tilts the global scales of perception in China’s favor - and sadly, it’s working. The U.S. needs leaders who aren’t in China’s pocket, yet Biden is just another embodiment of that same problem," said the Indian-origin US Presidential candidate in his tweet.

Elon Musk's first visit to China in three years comes is seen as his attempt to neutralise the intensifying competition to Tesla from Chinese-made electric vehicles. He is also striving to reduce uncertainty about expansion plans for the Shanghai plant.

Musk's China-based manufacturing units contribute immensely in the company's business and also to China's economy. Tesla's unit contributed around 25 per cent of Shanghai's total automotive production value last year, and local authorities announced boosting ties with the electric car maker through autonomous driving and robot modules.

Musk's China tour is the latest visit of a major US CEO to China post-Covid pandemic. Apple's Tim Cook visited the country in March, and JP Morgan's Jamie Dimon and Starbucks' Laxman Narasimhan are also in China till June 4.
