US President Joe Biden met with his British counterpart on Monday for talks on the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. Following a short interaction with Rishi Sunak, the POTUS also headed to Windsor Castle for his first meeting with King Charles since the latter was crowned. The developments come ahead of a NATO summit and growing debate over supplying Ukraine with US cluster munitions.
A Reuters update quoted Sunak's spokesperson to confirm that the two had indeed discussed cluster munitions. The British PM had also cited the country's commitments to the Convention on cluster munitions.
"We will continue to do our part to support Ukraine against Russia's illegal and unprovoked invasion," he had said over the weekend.
While Sunak had remained insistent that the two countries continued to share a cordial relationship. Similar concerns have been echoed by other allied countries.
With the NATO Summit less than a day away, Ukraine's western allies have found themselves unable to reach a consensus. The 31-member group is set to meet in Lithuania on Tuesday with the ongoing war becoming the focal point of discussions. NATO is now aiming above all to give Ukraine some kind of path to membership, but remains divided over how far to go.
