At least four people were killed on Thursday when a small plane crashed in the central Mexican state of Puebla, news agency AFP reported, citing authorities.

The plane crash involving the single-engine plane took place around 12 noon local time (1800 hrs GMT), with videos on social media showing the aircraft coming down shortly after taking off.

Dramatic videos on social media showed the small plane nosediving and crashing shortly after takeoff.

The plane was flying to the city of Poza Rica, in the eastern state of Veracruz, authorities said.

Authorities in Puebla said three people were pronounced dead at the scene while a fourth died after being taken away for medical care, reported AFP.

Local media reported that the aircraft may belong to an aviation school, though the same has not yet been confirmed. The identities of the victims have not been released either.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
