Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has debuted, and how. She stormed the hurly burly of politics Monday, on both offline and online terrains. The 47-year-old’s first roadshow in Lucknow had all the ingredients of what a successful inauguration of a politician is.

With people falling over each other to catch a glimpse of the latest member from the Nehru-Gandhi family to join the big bad world, cameramen could barely get a shot straight. Brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi was in tow, but only Priyanka seemed to be carrying the enviable lineage for the sea of people in Lucknow.

The road hereon is going to be a tough one for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Priyanka Gandhi both.

The Congress president has given her charge of the party in east Uttar Pradesh, putting her in direct confrontation with state chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Modi, who represents Varanasi in that part of the state.

That the Congress is left with little base in Uttar Pradesh only makes the task a more daunting one for her. But the beginning is encouraging. It’s 113,000 Twitter followers on Day 1 and counting.
