Say no to bigotry
The attacks on Kashmiri students in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack are coarse, descending to crude threats to the personal safety of the individual who dares express a different opinion
A constitutional representative of India endorsing a boycott of all things Kashmiri is reprehensible and completely irresponsible. Giving in to prejudice and bigotry is never a solution.
In the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack, Kashmiri students are under threat and colleges have said they will be denied admission, professionals who have lived in a place for years have been asked to “go home", and there are calls for a boycott of goods and services from Kashmiri traders.
Non-Kashmiris who advocate reason and restraint, instead of immediate retaliation, have also been besieged online and off.
Journalists, celebrities and social media users who pulled back to see the big picture were trolled violently.
The attacks are coarse, descending to crude threats to the personal safety of the individual who dares express a different opinion.
There has to be an end to this jingoism.
Threats, abuse and calls for violence against those who are not connected to the tragic deaths of the CRPF men are deplorable.
Tathagata Roy, the governor of Meghalaya, who whips up hatred, must be dealt with strictly to send out the message that bigotry is unacceptable.
