Over the past few days, social media platforms are taken over by a new trend called ‘Grimace Shake.’ The trend which started on TikTok spilled onto other social media platforms like Twitter and has received hundreds of millions of views with people from all corners of the world making videos on the ‘Grimace Shake’ trend. The users on social media are intrigued by the trend and are making it more and more dramatic videos.
Food chain company McDonald's launched a purple-coloured drink Grimace Shake to celebrate the birthday of its popular character that features in their advertisements. Evil Grimace is portrayed as a negative character who stole people's shakes. McDonald's never imagined that a simple addition to their menu will take such a viral turn.
As McDonald's added the Grimace shake to its menu, a bizarre trend began on Twitter with people pretending to be dead after drinking the purple milkshake. The #grimaceshake has accumulated over 142 million views on just TikTok, according to the news platform indy100. The trend is spilling onto other social media platforms like Twitter.
Dramatic videos of social media users pretending to be dead, or coughing badly, or sarcastic warnings about the shake being poisoned are doing rounds on social media platforms.
The users on social media were amused and horrified at the same time by the videos of the trend ‘Grimace Shake.’ While some users appreciated the creativity of the videos, others condemned them for the horrifying graphics.
“I'm gonna get the grimace shake today and if it doesn't kill me on the spot I'm gonna demand a refund,” one user said.
“That grimace shake trend is making me go insane. I feel like just seeing everyone do the exact same thing with no difference just creeps me out. I tried to make my own version slightly different as a breath of fresh air...,” another user said.
Fast-food chain giant McDonald's also reacted to the ‘Grimace Shake’ trend and posted a picture of a purple monster.
