AAP leader Ashok Tanwar resigns from party, says ‘your alignment with Congress…’

In his letter to the Arvind-Kejriwal-led party, the former Lok Sabha MP said the AAP's alignment with the Indian National Congress in the current political scenario is in clash with his ethics.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashok Tanwar on Thursday tendered his resignation from the party. “In view of the current political scenario and your alignment with the Indian National Congress, my ethics won't allow me to continue as Chairman, Election Campaign Committee, Aam Aadmi Party Haryana..,” read the resignation letter shared by news agency ANI on social media.

In his letter to the Arvind-Kejriwal-led party, the former Lok Sabha MP said the AAP's alignment with the Indian National Congress in the current political scenario is in clash with his ethics. He resigned from the post of Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee of the party in Haryana.

"I will continue to work for the betterment of the state of Haryana, our beloved country Bharat, and its people," he wrote in his letter amid speculations of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 

Recently, BJP MP from Sirsa Sunita Duggal reportedly called on the party in-charge of Haryana Biplab Kumar Deb in New Delhi for a meeting. The meeting lasted for nearly an hour. Giving information about the meeting, Duggal said that it was held to discuss some arrangements related to the Viksit Bharat Jan Sankalp Yatra. While interacting with the media, she also said that anybody is welcome to join the party.

According to media reports, after the reshuffling of its parliament candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP may be betting on Ashok Tanwar for the Sirsa parliamentary constituency.

Months ago, the Aam Aadmi Party faced another setback in Haryana after senior leader Nirmal Singh and his daughter Chitra Sarwara decided to quit their party membership and join the Indian National Congress. Before their resignation, Nirmal Singh handled the post of national co-convener and Chitra was the Haryana state vice-president of AAP.

The exit of the two leaders was confirmed by their media advisor after they submitted their resignation to AAP Haryana president Sushil Gupta.
